Wenonah 101, Sylacauga 40
Wenonah Claims 5A State Championship
Game Summary
What began as a competitive opening quickly turned into a complete takeover by Wenonah as the Dragons overwhelmed Sylacauga on both ends of the floor.
Once the momentum shifted, there was no slowing the Dragons. 2027 Santez Pendleton and 2027 Brendon Davis — widely regarded as a top five player in the state in the class of 2027 — ignited the offensive explosion early, combining for 27 of Wenonah’s 40 first-half points. Both players scored 7 points in the opening quarter, while Pendleton also grabbed five rebounds, limiting Sylacauga’s second‑chance opportunities.
Wenonah closed the first quarter with an 18–7 lead and never looked back.
From that point forward it was the Dragons’ show, with players across the roster knocking down shots and attacking the rim. Wenonah finished the game shooting 62.9% from the floor, 45% from three, and 70% from the free throw line. They also dominated every statistical category, producing 52 points in the paint, 27 fast break points, 22 second‑chance points, and 17 points off 14 Sylacauga turnovers.
The fourth quarter belonged to Brendon Davis, who put on a scoring clinic inside Legacy Arena to show exactly why he is considered one of the elite players in the state. The smooth wing scored 21 of his 42 points in the fourth quarter, going 6‑of‑8 from the field, 5‑of‑6 from three, and 4‑of‑5 from the free throw line. Davis showcased his full offensive arsenal — scoring off isolation, pin‑downs, and catch‑and‑shoot opportunities — while also flashing the athleticism to play above the rim with multiple highlight attempts.
While Davis set the arena on fire late, the all‑around dominance of Santez Pendleton cannot be overlooked. Pendleton finished with a monster stat line of 25 points, 19 rebounds, and 8 assists, controlling the game in nearly every facet before Davis closed it out.
Wenonah’s defense was equally impressive. The Dragons held Sylacauga to just 19% shooting from the floor (12‑of‑63) and 12% from three (3‑of‑25). At one point the lead ballooned to 64 points, making this performance the largest margin of victory in 5A State Championship game history.

Final Thoughts
With the win, Wenonah captures its first state championship since 2019, and their 101 points was the first 100-point game in AHSAA history, doing so in dominant fashion, with it also being the most lopsided title game in 5A history. The Dragons’ combination of elite scoring, physical rebounding, and suffocating defense proved far too much for Sylacauga as Wenonah claims the 5A Blue Map for Birmingham City.
